Gambian Crackpot leader, Jahya Jammeh, who seized power since 1994
The deranged bipolar Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh has rebuked the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon and Amnesty International for demanding an investigation into the death in custody of an opposition activist, Solo Sandeng according to the Jeune Afrique weekly Sunday.
Dictator Jammeh is said to be infuriated by the comments made by the UN and Amnesty International, who demanded Jammeh to conduct immediate, thorough and independent investigation into the death of Solo Sandeng. “Ban Ki-moon and Amnesty International can go to hell! Who are they to demand that?” said Dictator Jammeh.
Solo Sandeng, the youth president of the Gambia’s main opposition party, United Democratic Party (UDP), died in police custody on the 14th April after being arrested for leading a rare protest calling for electoral reforms in the country.
Since the death of Solo, no government official has come to publicly deny or acknowledge his killing, however, the interior minister Ousman Sonko was said to have admitted to the killing of Mr Sandeng in custody but that was not officially confirm. The affidavits by the two United Democratic Party (UDP) female party militants Nogoi Njie and Fatoumata Jawara are testaments that Yahya Jammeh’s government is hell bend on torture, murder and imprisonment of Gambians as a means to silence, intimidate and punish them. It would be recalled that these two female detainees were arrested and tortured at an electoral reform protest in Gambia together with Solo Sandeng by Gambian security forces on the 14th April 2016 which subsequently led to the death in custody of Solo Sandeng on the same day.
As was reported in this medium, Nogoi Njie, Fatoumata Jawara, Fatou Camara and Modou Ngum and the rest of the group were severely beaten and kept away in confinement for the government to buy time to heal their torture wounds. Continue reading
Nogoi Njie who was arrested together with Solo Sandeng has stated how she and her fellow detainees were severely tortured like animals which led to the ultimate death in custody of Solo Sandeng. It would be recalled that, a protest led by Solo Sandeng demanding electoral reforms in the Gambia was staged on 14th April 2016, which led to the arrest and torture of several members of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) including Fatoumata Jawara, Fatou Camara, Nogoi Njie, Modou Ngum and Solo Sandeng. In demanding the release of Solo and Co “Dead or Alive”, the UDP leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe also took to the streets on the 16th April, who was also arrested together with his entire party executives.
According to the affidavit by Nogoi Njie, they were treated like animals as the people who were assigned to torture them were all intoxicated and have no mercy or remorse. This story is a very gruesome one, however, it needed to be told for people to understand the cruelty Gambians have been in since 1994. Continue reading
